Amazing things happen when a group of people decide to follow Jesus together over a long period of time — each person completing the small tasks He has asked of them, doing each one with great love. That’s the story of the worldwide Free Methodist family (at least at our best) as our family has now walked together with Jesus for 150 years.
Most of the time we do not know how our small acts of love fit into the big picture. In fact, most of the time we have little appreciation for the movement He is creating through us. We simply follow because He calls — and realize we are each one of a much larger group of Christ-followers.
Lately I’ve realized a new appreciation for what Christ does through such a group. For instance, because Free Methodists follow Him together as a global family, His love is spreading around the world. The family that began in 1860 grew to 35,817 in 1910, to 98,203 in 1960 and today numbers almost one million. In 1860 we were in only one country; 150 years later we are in over 80. The graph on this page and the pie charts on the next represent this growth.
