Live from New York, It’s General Conference

Free Methodists who can’t make it to the Rochester, N.Y., area for General Conference 2011 can catch the action and share their thoughts at www.gc11.org.

FM congregations and conferences are encouraged to host local or regional gatherings as the Free Methodist Church – USA and FM representatives from around the world gather July 13-17 to focus on the theme “Whole: Gospel, World, Person.”

Technological advances will allow the whole church to participate in GC11 even if some members cannot travel to the conference at Roberts Wesleyan College, Northeastern Seminary and Pearce Memorial Church. Select events will be streamed at gc11.org/live with online participants sharing their thoughts in a chat window. Most streaming events also will be available with Spanish translation at gc11.org/live-es. The broadcast events will be recorded and archived for later viewing.

The first streaming event will be the worship celebration service at 7 p.m. EDT Wednesday, July 13, featuring guest speaker Richard Stearns, the president of World Vision and the author of “The Hole in Our Gospel.” After a quarter-century business career that included serving as chief executive officer of two corporations, he joined the Christian relief and development organization in 1998.

The next event will be International Child Care Ministries’ “Multiplying Miracles: One Shared Lunch” at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, July 14. This is the lone broadcast event not available in Spanish. ICCM Director Linda Adams has planned a unique and compelling event.

The worship celebration service at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, July 14, will continue the live streaming with speaker Bob Roberts Jr., the founding pastor of NorthWood Church in Keller, Texas, and a leading practitioner and writer on glocal (global + local) transformation of individuals, organizations and cities.

Tune in at 7 p.m. EDT Friday, July 15, for a worship celebration service featuring Bishop David Roller, who served as a missionary in Latin America for 27 years. Roller is convinced that all Christians should adopt the mindset of missionaries — understanding the culture and relinquishing their own preferences and privileges in their desire to see people’s key allegiance transferred to Jesus.

The live worship celebration service at 7 p.m. EDT Saturday, July 16, will feature Bishop Matt Thomas, who has served as a pastor, church planter, missionary and superintendent. Thomas bases his ministry on a foundation of evangelism, discipleship and leadership development.

A special Sunday worship and communion service will begin at 9 a.m. EDT Sunday, July 17. Tune in with your local congregation and hear from Bishop David Kendall, a former pastor and superintendent. Kendall’s passion for ministry centers on two primary calls — first, to communicate Scripture as God’s Word in faithful and relevant ways to our world and, second, to assist God’s people in truly being the church in the 21st century.
