Whereas:
Whereas the Free Methodist Church as a long tradition of concern for the poor and those with various social needs
And whereas the Free Methodist Church has accredited certain specific organizations which are social ministries
And whereas most social ministries are done by local churches, often with pastors and leaders with limited knowledge of effective means of dealing with various social problems
And whereas our denomination has many resources that could help churches develop effective social ministries (our accredited social ministries, our colleges, some of which offer social work degrees, and some of our churches that have very effective social ministries)
Therefore, be it resolved:
Be it resolved that our Bishops develop some type of resource center that would encourage and assist churches in reaching out to those in need, in addressing social problems and in addressing justice issues.
Note: This resource could be a website, person based or through some type of linkages. This activity could also be done by a group of churches, a department of one of our colleges, CUES or by NE seminary)
Financial note: currently there is 3000 dollars to help start this through the endowment of the Center for Christian Social Ministries at the Rochester Foundation.
Does the resolution have a direct relationship to the vision and mission of the Free Methodist Church?
Yes.
How will the proposed change help us accomplish our vision and mission?
Better equipping local church pastors and lay leaders to effectively minister to the poor and needy and deal with social problems.

Absolutely agree with this!
As we integrate our Wesleyan Theology with social work in our MSW program at Asbury University, it becomes clear that the church has to move in this direction. How exciting!!!
