Unified Prayer: June 6-12

Hillsong is an Australian worship group known worldwide. Below are some of the words to their powerful song Mighty to Save, which remind us of two things:

  • The love and power of our Lord is immense. Jesus is mighty to save. He can move mountains. He rose and conquered the grave. He is our hope. He is the author of salvation.
  • The Holy Spirit inspired a group of Christians on the other side of the world to write this song. The truth of who God is and what He does wraps around the world. His power is present with us personally and with His church worldwide.

As we go to prayer let’s linger on the truths of this song of worship. Let the truth assure us that He can move the mountains necessary to empower the Free Methodist Church to be and do all that He wants us to be. First, use the personal pronouns. Then use the plural to declare the same truth for our church.

The kindness of a Saviour;
The Hope of nations.

June 6–12

This week we will use specific scriptures to guide our prayers.  As you approach these times of prayer ask the Holy Spirit to:

  • Increase our faith in the Word of God.
  • Fill us with an increasing love for our Lord and others.
  • Help us not to limit what God can do for us as a people.
  • Guide and embolden us to pray large prayers.

Monday – June 6th Prayer Task: “Promised Provision”

Read Out Loud: 2 Corinthians 9:10-11

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Pray: Lord, through Paul, You have said that You supply what we need and will actually increase what we have and enlarge our harvest of righteousness. You have said that we will be rich in every way so that we can be generous on every occasion. We believe You for Your provision and continue to ask Your blessing on the resources of Your people so that we will be a generous people. May our generosity bring thanksgiving to You. Amen.

Tuesday – June 7th Prayer Task: “Filled With The Fullness Of God”

Read Out Loud: Ephesians 3:16-19

I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledgethat you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in thinking what it means for a church to be rooted and established in love. Changing the pronouns, pray these verses for the Free Methodist Church.

Wednesday – June 8th Prayer Task: “God’s Presence Among Us”

Read Out Loud: Ephesians 2:19-22

Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.

Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in thinking what it means to be members of God’s household. What kind of foundation have we been given as a church? Thank the Lord for those things. Affirm your belief that the Free Methodist Church is being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.

Thursday – June 9th Prayer Task: “His Power in Us”

Read Out Loud: Ephesians 1:18-23

I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in thinking about what it means that we have His incomparably great power. What does that “look like” in the church? In prayer affirm that those things are attainable. Pray that they are made real among us.

Friday – June 10th Prayer Task: “Life of Love”

Read Out Loud: Ephesians 4:29-5:2

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in thinking what it means that we speak only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs. Pray that those things would come true in our church.

Lord, may we be imitators of God and live a life filled with love just as Jesus Christ did for us. May we, as a people, be a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Amen.

* Action Prayer: If as you were praying you were reminded of something you said that did not build up another, ask forgiveness of the Lord. Also go to the person you said it to or were in conversation with. (Remember our words affect individuals indirectly as we are in conversation with others.)

Saturday – June 11th Prayer Task: “Excellent Thinking”

Read Out Loud: Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableif anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.

Pray: Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in thinking about the “atmosphere” of thought that this scripture teaches. How should this affect where our minds dwell when we gather as a people at General Conference? Pray for those things to be happening before, during and after GC11.

Sunday – June 12th Prayer Task: “Answered Prayer”

Read Out Loud: Ephesians 3:20-21

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Pray: Lord, sometimes we think “beautiful” thoughts about what the church could be. What it should be. Help us not to sink into thoughts of unbelief. Help us to realize that you have given us the standards by which we can imagine. Lord, you can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. Your power is at work in us.  May we bring You glory at GC11—and forever and ever. Amen.

Giving the Lord More of Your Sabbath: Take time today and review the verses of this week. Read them aloud and again and simply pray: Lord, You put these words in Your Holy Scriptures. Continue to nurture faith within our hearts and in our prayers that Your power is great and is at work. What is in Your Word is possible and You will do it. Thank You. Amen.
